Berry Breakfast Week

Breakfast is literally breaking the fast… After a nights sleep our body is running on empty and we need to supply the body with fuel to provide energy for the day ahead. Including a healthy breakfast daily will help give your little one energy for play and fuel the brain to help learning. In fact research showed that eating a regular healthy breakfast results in improved behaviour and performance in school!

Other health benefits include being a healthy weight, those who eat a healthy breakfast tend to maintain a healthy weight when compared with breakfast skippers. We also know that breakfast eaters have significantly higher intakes of calcium, which is important for bone health and folate which is good for the heart. When choosing a healthy breakfast for your family focus on balance. Base it around a fibre rich carbohydrate, add some protein like milk, yogurt, eggs or nuts and always make sure there is colourful fruit! A fibre and protein rich breakfast will help keep you little one full until breaktime and give them the energy they need to start their day.
