Pears are a super charged source of fibre, vitamins and antioxidants. They have a very pleasant, sweet, mild taste and so the perfect snack for kids and adults alike! Eaten as they are or in a tasty recipe, pears are a very versatile fruit…
We grow Irish Pears in our orchard on the farm. Harvest usually begins in August where pears are picked by hand and placed into wooden crates to be stored until ripe.
Typically it takes at least 4 years before a pear year starts to bloom but some can take as long as 14 years! Pear tress bloom from late February to mid-April and will produce fruit from mid-August to mid-October.
Pears don’t ripen on tress rather they ripen from the inside out when off the tree – this is why they are usually harvested unripe
